Local Club Projects

We collect toiletries to make welcome kits for:
  • Domestic violence safe houses
  • The Center for Community Solutions
  • The Polinsky Center for Children
When entering a safe house, rape crisis center or a safe home for abused and/or neglected children, the victim has nothing. The members of SILJ have collected the toiletries from hotel rooms, toothbrushes and toothpaste from dentists, lotions from department store gift bags, and anything we can get donated. We create welcome kits filled with these items for women and children who enter these places with nothing.
We plant trees and clean up our beaches.
Our environment committee has inspired us to plant trees and clean up our beaches. We always have such fun when we work together and make a difference in our community.
We support Operation Fairy Godmother
Soroptimist International of Valley de Oro started Operation Fairy Godmother several years ago. SILJ partners with them and other organizations to collect evening dress, shoes and jewelry for girls who might not otherwise be able to afford going to their prom.
We collect sweat suits, undergarments and blankets for:
  • The Center for Community Solutions
Often the clothes of rape victims are kept as evidence. To have a new, clean set of sweats and underclothes, with a blanket can mean a lot to these women.
We collect books, toys games and music for:
  • The Polinsky Center for Children
We supported 1000 Smiles in Ensenada, Mexico.
1000 Smiles Foundation provides oral surgery to underserved children in Mexico and Costa Rica. Members of SILJ worked with this experienced organization of surgeons and their volunteers to assist with snacks, beverages and crafts for the families while the children are being attended to. Helping these families get through a trying day was a very rewarding experience for our members.
We sponsored a career day at the YMCA for women in transition.
SILJ arranged for workshops on creating resumes, job hunting and grooming. We also collected gently used business clothing from which the attendees could choose as their own to wear on interviews.

Fundraising through a garage sale can be fun as well as bringing in funds to the Club to support all the individuals and community groups we aid.

"Reach for the Sky"

"Reach for the Sky" is a program to help girls attend school in Cambodia. SILJ has made donations to the Cambodian Village Fund, started by Nancy and Bill Bamberger. The photos shows the 17 success stories.  From high school all the way to college.
